Another Way to Help Your Community

neic_logo_with_text_2.jpgThe Northeast Investment Cooperative (NEIC) is a for-profit cooperative that aims to raise capital and purchase, rehab, and lease commercial real estate on Central Ave in Northeast Minneapolis. The goal is to make transformative investments that improve the overall attractiveness of Central Avenue and bring in owner-occupied, independent businesses. Currently the NEIC boasts a membership of over 70 members with many more concerned Northeasters coming on each month.

The Northeast Investment Cooperative has grown out of an interest to make a positive change on Central Avenue, the backbone of Northeast Minneapolis. Many members have been interested in doing something with vacant or underutilized property along Central and are ready to do something about it. NEIC believes that by investing patient capital together, by actively recruiting local businesses to occupy their properties, and by supporting those businesses as they grow and thrive, they can bring transformative change to Northeast Minneapolis, one building at a time.

A growing group of neighbors has been meeting since spring 2011 to create this grassroots approach to community development. Planning has advanced enough that NEIC is inviting the broader Northeast community to join the effort and lay the groundwork for NEIC's first property purchase.

Come and learn more about cooperative community investment on Monday, 11/5, at 7pm, at the Waite Park Community Center, 1810 34th Ave. NE.  RSVP to if you can make it!
